I always get asked What is better; cardio or weights? Well, why can't you have both. One can support the other. We have a ton of runners and cyclist at our gym and I always see them do exercises that don't support in intensity or rhythm their chosen sport. I'll watch a marathon runner do some machines and think "How does that support running?" Sure it is overall fitness, but having your movements mimic the intensity with which you pedal or run I believe can help you improve your run time and ability to finish stronger.

Open your minds. Think about this. If you were a powerlifter and you had a big meet comming up, would you do a step aerobic class? Probably not. So why would you do a bench press and lat pull down in preparation for a marathon?hmmmmmmmmmmmm

So mix it up a little. You can lift weights and do cardio based exercises to get the results you want. In fact, follow a cardio based exercise with a pure weight bearing exercise. Here I have Larry doing a cardio based exercise followed by pullups. ....4 times through. No break. I know. I suck.
